MAN ENJOYS SHORT 23 DAY FREEDOM

A New Richmond man is in the Clermont County Jail after assaulting two police officers on Thursday night.  Robert Rickett, 30, of 833 Washington Street, New Richmond was arrested Thursday night after he violated a protection order by calling his ex-girlfriend and leaving harassing messages on her answering machine.  Officers arrived at his home Thursday evening in an attempt to arrest him on the felony charge of violating a protection order.  The violation was a felony because he has been convicted of the same offense before.  Officers Cameron Ammerman and Gary Kercher searched through the house while Chief Dave Willoughby remained outside.  After it appeared that Rickett had escaped out of the house upon officer's arrival, Chief Willoughby searched the crawl space under the house, locating Rickett inside.  He was safely taken into custody and placed in a waiting police cruiser.  As the officers were speaking to his father, Rickett kicked the glass out of the cruiser, pelting two officers and his father with flying glass.  Chief Willoughby received several superficial cuts to his face and arms and was treated by EMS, but not transported to the hospital.  The other officer that was hit with the flying glass, Officer Gary Kercher was not injured.  The suspects father was also not injured by the glass.  The estimate to fix the broken glass is $476.00.

Rickett was charged with the following:

Violating a Protection Order

Two counts of Assault on a Police Officer.

Domestic Violence

Resisting Arrest

Vandalism

Rickett has a very extensive criminal history and was just released from prison on July 10, 2007 after serving time for Telephone Harassment.  He has numerous arrests for domestic violence, violating protection orders, burglary, resisting arrest, etc.  Rickett has resisted arrest several times in the past and officers know what to expect when dealing with him.  Chief Willoughby was at home at the time of the call, but responded when he heard who the officers were looking for.
